Hello everyone! Somehow, our winter concert is only one month away! Where has the start of the school year gone?! The second graders will be telling the story of our concert in short skits between the songs in our performance, and they are hard at work practicing their parts in Music! If you would like a copy of the script to practice at home, please feel free to print one from this blog post at home!
The students in grades k-2 are doing an incredible job preparing this performance for you-- we can't wait to see you there!
Have a great day, Ms. Meiman

The cat is finally out of the bag!
This year, as an after school program, I am starting SoundWave, a show choir opportunity for students in grades 5-8. It will be held after school twice a week, and I am hoping to be flexible with student availability as much as possible to make sure that each and every student interested in the group can join and have an amazing experience. For details, there will be an email going home from the school, as well as paper copies of the permission slips and information with students. Since you are already here at the music website, simply check out the brand new SoundWave tab at the top of your webpage-- clicking it will bring you to all of the information and a copy of the permission slip here on the Music website. I am so excited to offer this performing ensemble to students in the middle school grades, and I cannot wait to get started. If you have questions, as always you can reach me at [email protected]. Have a happy Wednesday! Ms. Meiman Welcome to Music 2017-2018!
I can't believe we are here already, but it has been so wonderful to see students excited and ready to learn this year. So many of them have come into the music room already singing songs and asking if we are going to do [Insert long list of favorites from last year here] again! I can't wait to continue learning with the incredible students at Greenland Central School. There are so many exciting opportunities for students in music this year, and some are new! I can't wait to share them with you, so please stay tuned for news and details about this year's opportunities. As I get the chance, I will be editing this website and streamlining it to reflect the new year. As always, you can find pictures, videos, and other things your student is working on in the music room by clicking on the correct grade level tab across the top of this site. There is so much to do this month, getting everything off the ground for the year, so I hope to see you soon at one of the open houses or at the GCS BBQ! Happy Labor Day and Welcome Back! Ms. Meiman Wow, what a year! I don't know about you, but I have had the most wonderful first year here at Greenland Central School, and it has been an absolute joy to see all the students in the music room every week. From concerts to flash mobs to silly songs to honoring our veterans, GCS students have done it all, and I couldn't be more proud. Before you head out on your summer adventures, check out the video of the flash mob that sixth, seventh, and eighth graders participated in the other week! (You can also find the video in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade tabs above-- just click and see!)
I hope you all have a wonderful summer and I can't wait to hear all about your adventures next school year. Until then, keep on being the amazing and thoughtful students you are-- Happy Summer! Ms. Meiman Due to a technological glitch, the 2S Homemade Lemonade video did not make it up onto the website before Expo Night, which was disappointing.
HOWEVER, I am very excited to point you to the Second Grade tab at the top of this page in order to show off the 2S Homemade Lemonade videos! We taped them in class today and were very enthusiastic about the project. Happy Thursday! Ms. Meiman Welcome to the Music Room!Welcome to Expo Night and welcome to the music room! I hope you are having a great time whether you're eating ice cream, playing on the playground, or seeing what awesome work students have done this year.
In the music room, there are a lot of things that we have worked on or with over the course of the year, but since music is fleeting, you may find this website to be the best way to take a peek at what our classes have been like this year. If you are new to this website, just navigate around by clicking the grade level tabs at the top of the page to see videos of student work. We have been having a blast in music class, so I hope you enjoy what you see! I'm looking forward to seeing all the classroom work that I have heard so much about, and I hope to see you in the halls or here in the music room! Ms. Meiman We're in the homestretch, officially!
I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun April vacation-- it was nice to have at least a few days of beautiful weather to enjoy. I am so proud of grades k-2, who did an incredible job at their concert on April 18th; once again, BRAVO! You all looked and sounded amazing. Though we have two months left of school, it seems the schedule is even more jam packed than usual! Elementary students are singing spring songs and silly music games, and third grade is working on their Recorder Karate songs-- we are already at our Purple belt! Fourth grade is learning about the instruments of the orchestra and the variety of styles they can perform. Fifth grade is finishing Composer Madness-- out of the 32 we started with, we are down to the Final Four: Dvorak, Vaughan Williams, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky. They are working on their posters about the composer of their choice at the moment, hoping to convince their classmates to vote in their favor. Sixth grade is finishing their Broadway Musical unit, and seventh grade is working on the next era of music in our study of Music History, the Medieval Era. Eighth grade is starting a mini-project on influential American musicians of the last century, which will hopefully take us to the end of the year. Have a great week! Ms. Meiman The school year seems to be flying by-- I can't believe we are already in April!
It has been a wonderful year so far, and I can't wait to share our upcoming Spring Concert with you! Here is some information you may want to know about our performance this month: Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students will be performing in the spring concert, "Positive!" on Tuesday, April 18 at 7pm in the GCS Gym. Students should be prepared to arrive between 6:45-6:55pm in order to meet their teachers in their classrooms and get ready. Classrooms will not be open before 6:45pm. For this concert, students should be dressed up; please, no jeans, sneakers, or t-shirts. It is not necessary to go and purchase a new outfit, but dressing up shows respect for ourselves and the hard work we have put into this concert as well as show what a special event this is to both us and our audience. Here on the Music website, there are links to the songs we are singing for our concert. Just click on the grade level of your student, and the songs will be at the top of the page. If they would like to practice, they can use these links to sing at home as well as with me in class. If you have any questions about the concert, please feel free to email me at [email protected]! I am so proud of the work students have put into this concert already, and can't wait to share it with all of you. See you soon! Ms. Meiman Hello, and I hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving break!
From this side of Thanksgiving, our Holiday Concert seems so close-- it's just 3 weeks away. We have been doing a lot of work on the songs and on the skits, and it really does show when we rehearse. Our first large group rehearsal is this week, too, so I am eagerly anticipating being able to put together the entire performance. Concert-wear will be fairly standard for all students, and if there are any questions please send me an email. The purpose of standard concert-clothing is to present a special and dressy appearance as a group, as well as to also promote a positive and special atmosphere for both the performers and for the audience. The concert dress code is as follows: Girls: Colorful/seasonal top (a blouse or nice shirt, please no t-shirts). Black bottoms, either pants or skirt and black tights. (please, no leggings as pants or black jeans) Dress shoes, please no sneakers. Boys: Colorful/seasonal top (dress shirt or light sweater, please no t-shirts) Black bottoms (please no black jeans) Dress shoes, please no sneakers. In addition to this, some characters in the show have a few additional "costume" items. Please don't feel obligated to go out and purchase anything additional for your student, as these looks can probably be found at your home. If there are any questions, please send me an email. --Snowflake characters should wear a white top, since they are snowflakes. --Dot and Mabel should wear a white top, since they are snow-women. Additional items to complete the snowman look can also be added (hat, scarf, etc) --Snow Kids and Skaters can add a few items of outerwear to their look for their skits (hat, gloves, scarf) --Game Show Hosts should look "sharp" in their outfits --Heidi Plum and Tommy Billfeather are both the fashion icons hosting the Polar Fashion Week, so their characters are glamorous, stylish, and sharp, which can be shown in their concert wear. I do have a few things that are costume needs, and if you are able to provide them I would greatly appreciate the assistance with these items: --White tulle/tutus for 13 snowflakes --2 Bathrobes to borrow for "Mom" character and "child" character --2 Pairs of antlers/antler hats for moose/reindeer characters --4 "tux" shirts for penguin characters. Please send me an email if you have any questions, comments, or concerns! Thank you so much Ms. Meiman |
