Homemade Lemonade!
At the end of 2nd grade, students learn a song called Homemade Lemonade by Tom Chapin. They have to listen to the song, and map out the story and the characters. They learn to sing the chorus of the song, and some of the parts sung by the characters, and then dramatically act out each character.
When they have learned each part, we make a video of our performance. See below for videos:

Concert leaders:
As second graders, these classes are leaders and role models for the other students in the k-2 Spring Concert. We practice in class to get ready, and also to ramp up our enthusiasm. Our use of microphones helps us learn to project our voices as well as getting us excited and singing with enthusiasm.

Springtime Dancing
During March, 2nd grade students learned a folk dance that requires some careful counting, but is super fun to do all together when we finally get the parts down. It has a fun irish reel-type tune to go with it that makes us want to move our feet!
Happy Last Week of 2018!
Every year, the week before winter break, Music and Phys. Ed classes get interdisciplinary and combine together to do
Dashing Through The Snow Rhythm Races! Students work together on teams, and have to apply both music and phys. ed skills to do the game. Check out a 2nd grade combo class below!

Trimester 1!
Students are thinking about the question: how do you write a folk song?
We need to use a lot of musical skills and knowledge to compose a song; we need our ta, ti-ti, and rest rhythms, we need our so-la-mi melody notes, we need our singing skills, and our music reading and writing skills. Here are some pictures from our composition project:

Second graders can also play melodies on orff instruments!
