A look at our learning process this year...
The song and activity "Doggie Doggie" involves studying and interpreting sheet music! Students connect to songs we've studied from earlier in the year to find out about the song, making observations as a class. They then sight-sing (a huge deal!!) the notes on solfege mi-so-la notes, before we add in the words to the song. When we play the activity, one student is "Doggie" and one has the "bone", and students sing together and individually before trying to guess who has the bone by vocal identification.

Here is a quick sneak-peak at some of our concert music for the Spring Concert... these videos are a glimpse of our work in progress rehearsing, but don't we sound great already? You can see us holding microphones... we love to sing into them as we practice good musical sound and singing out. It also helps us get energized and have fun to sing!

We also sing a variety of songs, including this song with ASL signs for the colors. Students love learning new signs, and we incorporate some simple signs into our room after learning this song! |

Music in Trimester 1!
|
Students are learning about melody, the "tune" of a song. The melody notes we are learning to recognize, read, and sing are "So" and "Mi".
Students can look at written music and sing what they see! |
Students in first grade have also been learning about rhythms using "ta" and "ti-ti" notes. We have been building rhythm patterns, reading rhythms, and learning how to write and draw the rhythm notes.
