4th Grade Review--the Harry Potter Challenge!
At the end of 4th grade, students review topics, skills, and concepts from their elementary music classes. These skills are turned into activities and team based games, that students participate in and earn points for skill work, connections, and team and community building. Points are collected amongst all the 4th graders on the hallway bulletin board.
Below, check out some video of students playing music on the giant floor piano; they analyzed and learned the music in their groups and practiced and presented on "regular" sized keyboards. They have the opportunity to play the big keyboard after they have done so.

Note Name Battleship
The best way to review the notes on the staff is to have a good time while wracking our brains for information we already know! Students practice note recognition to help with music-reading and analyzing skills by playing "Battle Ship"--music style.
Boomwhacker Nutcracker!
The week before winter break, students in fourth grade figured out the written music for songs from the Nutcracker. After listening and following the music, they worked together to perform the piece! Here are some videos from their performances.

Trimester 1:
Students are preparing the winter concert, which will feature partner songs. Students have been working to develop the musical skills that this entails, including listening to two parts but singing one part, solid understanding of their part, and rhythmic complexities that come from hearing two vocal lines at once.
Here is what rehearsing might look like: |

In fourth grade, we have also been studying how beats in music can be "grouped" into measures of 4/4 time or 3/4 time. By grouping the beats, we can then compose rhythms in different time signatures. Here are some examples of rhythms in different time signatures composed and performed by fourth grade.
